Asbestos tiles removal is a very dangerous job to do. In most states its against the law to remove asbestos yourself. You shouldn’t attempt to remove asbestos floor tiles unless you’re licensed. Asbestos contains six natural minerals known as amosite, chryosite, crocidolite, tremolite, actinolite, and anthophylllite. The minerals are resistant to heat and are fireproof.
Asbestos is broken down into two categories, non-friable and friable asbestos. When asbestos is released into the air, and can be inhaled, this is known as friable asbestos. When breathed in, it can cause severe heath diseases. When asbestos contains more than 1% of asbestos, and can be released into the air, it gets labeled as friable asbestos.
Non-friable in asbestos typically located in dry walls, cements, floor tiles, and vinyl floor tiles. In the 1970′s, a lot of homes used asbestos in walls, cement floors, roofing, textured paint, and for steam pipes. Asbestos is not hazardous to be around, unless its released into the air. For example, damaged vinyl floor tiles can free asbestos into the air, becoming a friable asbestos.
