Smart Parents for Eating Fruits Every Day

As a parent, it may seem truly tasking to get your child to eat fruit. Children can come up with a million reasons to refuse eating fruit, from not liking the colour, the packaging, the taste and texture and the fact that there are seeds in it, until these reasons are hilarious or do not make sense.

The new website release of www.fruitness.eu is a campaign to help parents encourage their children to learn about the benefits of fruit whilst having fun. After very important achievements in the first three years (2006-2009) the EU (European Union), together with CSO (Centro Servizi Ortofrutticoli) and Italian Government, arranged a fund of €3.5 million for another three years (2009-2012) for the “Fruitness, enjoy it!” project. Mr. Fruitness, the green tights wearing superhero is the face of the campaign. He accumulates energy by eating fruit, fighting junk food and obesity in order to favour the consumption of fruit amongst kids and adolescents across Europe.

This website involves games, information, sports, quizzes, and is very interactive as a whole which is easy for children to use, leading to a greater understanding about the benefits of fruit. Users can test their skills in various disciplines (from skiing  to dice games and even ability tests) and in a few steps create their own “Avatar” in order to talk to Mr Fruitness, proving themselves to be his faithful allies in the battle against junk food and obesity.

In addition to all the entertainment for children, the website also offers many ideas for mothers and for those who are interested in a healthy lifestyle: lots of delicious snacks and fruit-based dessert recipes and last but not least, nutritional advice given by experts help to complete the new website.

This is a brilliant way for parents to teach their children about the benefits of eating healthily with the consumption of more fruit, whilst having fun and interacting with the superhero himself at the same time.

This website will definitely help the reduce the number of obese children across Europe with an estimated 1 million people reached so far in the campaign.
